About Midas (he/him/his)
Midas Hampton is a dynamic leader and visionary driving positive change as the Founding Executive Director of Strategic Spartanburg, Inc. This nonprofit research organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of Spartanburg County residents by leveraging data and evidence to create tangible improvements in their quality of life. With a diverse background encompassing direct service, youth and community development, mixed methods research, state and local policy, as well as measurement and evaluation, Midas brings a unique and comprehensive perspective to his work.

Midas began his academic journey by earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of South Carolina-Upstate, setting the foundation for his dedication to community development. Subsequently, he pursued a Master's degree in Public Administration at Seattle University, where he honed his skills in participatory methodologies and centered equity in all aspects of his work. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in the Urban Leadership and Entrepreneurship program at the University of the District of Columbia. His research focuses on critical topics such as neighborhood change, quality-of-life indicators, data equity, community development, gentrification, and stakeholder engagement.

Midas's commitment to equity and inclusivity is evident in every facet of his career. He passionately advocates for participatory methodologies, ensuring that the voices of all community members are heard and valued. Whether working with residents or policymakers, Midas consistently seeks to create a more just and equitable society through his research and advocacy.

Midas's dedication to public service extends beyond his role at Strategic Spartanburg. He has contributed significantly to the greater community, having served as an AmeriCorps VISTA and as a member of prestigious organizations such as the Urban Institute's Measure4Change Advisory Council, Results for America's Working Lab Advisory Group, and Purpose Built Communities' Economic Vitality Pillar Working Group. Through these endeavors, he actively collaborates with diverse stakeholders to shape meaningful and sustainable change.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Midas finds joy and fulfillment in his personal life. He resides in Spartanburg with his partner, Lauren, and is a devoted father to his two daughters, Athena and Zari. Alongside their beloved cat and dog, the Hampton household embraces a sense of family, community, and compassion that mirrors Midas's commitment to creating a better world.
